Belgium House Fire: Man Arrested Over Suspected Arson

A 44-year-old man has been arrested in Ghent after a devastating house fire in Heist-op-den-Berg, Belgium, that investigators believe was deliberately set. The incident occurred Wednesday morning amid an ongoing dispute between the suspect and his former wife.
The fire broke out shortly after 8:30 a.m. Emergency crews rushed to the scene and brought the flames on the ground floor under control. Firefighters faced greater difficulties on the upper floor because of the intense heat.
An initial investigation identified two separate points where the fire may have started. A fire expert reportedly confirmed that the blaze was deliberate. Investigators also noted that a car was seen leaving the area quickly.
Fire Occurred During Court Proceedings
The house reportedly belongs to the man’s former wife, who was away with her two daughters when the fire started. They had gone to court in connection with their separation and a request to extend a temporary restraining order against the man.
A domestic violence complaint had previously been filed against him. Before the fire, the suspect reportedly posted a message on social media expressing anger over the situation: “You destroyed my life. You took everything from me.”
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire and whether it was connected to the ongoing family dispute.
