Passenger Falls Onto Train Tracks in Belgium

A passenger fell onto the railway tracks at the train station in Zottegem, Belgium, after suddenly becoming unwell while waiting for a train this morning.

The passenger fell onto track 3 at around 7:15 a.m., shortly before a train was due to enter the station on its way toward Brussels. People at the station quickly helped the passenger back onto the platform.

The driver of the approaching train was immediately informed about the incident and made an emergency stop to prevent a more serious accident.

The passenger received first aid at the scene, while the train driver was reportedly left shocked by what had happened. Another driver was brought in to replace him after the emergency stop.

As a result of the incident, train services toward Brussels were delayed by around 30 minutes, according to Dimitri Temmerman, a spokesperson for Belgian railway operator NMBS.
