Belgium Weekend Weather Forecast: Temperatures Set to Rise

Belgium is set to experience a sharp change in temperatures over the weekend, shifting from cold winter-like conditions on Saturday to unusually mild, spring-like weather on Sunday.

The sudden change is linked to a shift in wind direction, according to Belgian weather expert Bram Verbruggen. On Saturday, cold air will arrive from the north. By Sunday, winds from the south will bring much warmer air.

Belgium Weekend Weather Forecast

Saturday: Temperatures will range from 2°C to 7°C, with cold conditions making winter clothing necessary. During Saturday night, a broad band of rain will move across Belgium, paving the way for warmer air from southern Europe.

Sunday: Temperatures are expected to climb to between 14°C and 18°C. Strong southerly winds will bring much milder conditions, making it warm enough to leave heavy winter coats at home.

Why Are Temperatures Changing So Quickly?

Verbruggen explains that cold northerly winds will keep Belgium chilly on Saturday. As rain moves across the country overnight, warmer air from Spain and Portugal will push northward.

This change in air masses could cause temperatures to rise by as much as 10°C or 11°C in just one day.

Is This Weather Pattern Unusual in Belgium?

Although the temperature swing may seem surprising, such changes are not uncommon at this time of year.

Southern Europe can remain relatively warm while colder conditions develop farther north. The direction of the wind plays a major role in determining temperatures in Belgium.

Colder Weather Expected to Return

The mild conditions are expected to be short-lived, with temperatures forecast to fall again early the following week.

  • Monday: Temperatures will remain relatively mild at around 14°C.
  • Tuesday: Cooler air will return, bringing temperatures down to between 6°C and 11°C.
  • Wednesday: Temperatures are expected to range from 5°C to 8°C, closer to the typical November average of 8°C to 9°C.

Could Belgium See a New Temperature Record?

If temperatures reach 18°C on Sunday, the day could set a new record for November 24, according to the original forecast.

Residents should prepare for cold conditions on Saturday but may enjoy a brief taste of spring on Sunday. However, the warmer weather is expected to give way to more typical late-autumn temperatures as the new week begins.
