Sihame El Kaouakibi Trial Resumes in Antwerp

The trial of former Flemish Parliament member Sihame El Kaouakibi, 40, over alleged subsidy fraud involving the nonprofit organization Let’s Go Urban is continuing at the correctional court in Antwerp.

The case focuses on public subsidies received by Let’s Go Urban, an organization known for its urban dance and youth projects. The proceedings are examining allegations surrounding the use of the funding and the responsibilities of those involved.

During the second day of the trial earlier this month, El Kaouakibi’s lawyers asked the court to acquit her. At the end of the hearing, she also addressed the court, describing the difficulties she says she is facing in her personal and professional life.

“Finding a job is not possible. I can’t even open a bank account,” she said, according to the report.

Her comments highlighted the personal impact of the ongoing legal case. However, the court must still assess the allegations and evidence before reaching a final decision.

The proceedings are continuing in Antwerp, with the lawyers representing El Kaouakibi’s partner and Let’s Go Urban expected to present their arguments.

El Kaouakibi previously served in the Flemish Parliament. The case involving Let’s Go Urban has drawn attention because it concerns public funding and the management of a nonprofit organization working with young people.

The trial remains ongoing, and the allegations against those involved should not be treated as established facts unless confirmed by a court ruling.
