6-Year-Old Girl Found Dead in Belgium Apartment
A 6-year-old girl was found dead inside an apartment in Mont-Saint-Guibert, in Belgium’s Walloon Brabant province, on Saturday night, according to local police.
Police Find Child’s Body and Seriously Injured Woman
Police in Walloon Brabant confirmed the discovery on Sunday, saying officers had also found a seriously injured woman inside the apartment, although authorities have not yet provided further details about her condition or what happened to her.
A large number of police officers were sent to Courbeystraat in Mont-Saint-Guibert on Saturday evening as part of the investigation, and an investigating judge has now been appointed to oversee the case.
According to police, the girl was found dead inside the apartment and is believed to have been strangled with a scarf, although an autopsy will be carried out to establish the exact cause and circumstances of her death.
Police Investigate Possible Multiple Victims
The injured woman was also found inside the apartment in serious condition, and authorities have not ruled out the possibility that there could be more than one victim in the case.
Witnesses reportedly heard someone shouting outside the building, saying, “She killed her, she killed her,” although investigators have not publicly confirmed the circumstances behind the statement or identified the person who made it.
The mayor and police declined to comment on the incident on Saturday as the investigation was still developing, but authorities are reported to have a suspect in the case who is already known to the courts in connection with previous acts of violence.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the autopsy is expected to provide more information about how the child died as investigators work to determine exactly what happened inside the apartment.
