Belgian Police Shoot Suspect Dead in Mechelen

Belgian police shot and killed a man on Tervuursesteenweg in Mechelen after responding to a domestic violence incident, according to local reports.

Police officers were called to the scene following a report of domestic violence in the Belgian city. When officers arrived, the suspect reportedly fled the area while carrying a knife.

The man then entered a Spar supermarket before leaving the store again as police continued to pursue him. During his attempt to escape, he reportedly attacked and injured a cyclist with the knife.

Police then opened fire on the suspect, who was seriously wounded and died from his injuries shortly afterward.

The incident caused disruption to traffic in the area, and Belgian public transport operator De Lijn announced on Twitter that bus routes passing through the location of the shooting would be diverted.
