Brussels Airport Parking Full as Holiday Rush Hits

Drivers heading to Brussels Airport on Tuesday, October 20, should expect heavy traffic and limited parking as the autumn school break brings a surge in travelers.
All public parking spaces were reported full, according to the Flemish Traffic Center and Belgian federal police. In response, Brussels Airport has exceptionally opened parking area P6 to help accommodate the demand.
The airport expects around 74,000 passengers on Tuesday, including nearly 39,000 departing travelers.
Brussels Airport Opens Extra Parking
Airport spokesperson Ihsane Chioua Lekhli confirmed that the airport is experiencing heavy traffic and parking demand.
Parking P6, an outdoor lot near the large TUI building, has been opened temporarily. Drivers should follow the airport’s road signs to reach the additional parking area.
However, motorists should allow extra time for their journey. The Flemish Traffic Center has warned of delays of around 20 minutes on the A201, the main access road to Brussels Airport.
Public Transportation Recommended
Brussels Airport is advising passengers to consider taking public transportation whenever possible.
Those traveling by car should leave earlier than usual. The airport also recommends asking family members or friends for a ride and using the designated drop-off area if they do not need to leave their vehicle at the airport.
The parking shortage is linked to the autumn break in French-speaking schools, which began on October 19.
The airport had already warned of a busy holiday period. In an announcement published on October 15, Brussels Airport said it expected more than 1.7 million travelers throughout the autumn holidays, with passenger numbers varying as school breaks take place at different times across Belgium.
More Crowds Expected in the Coming Days
Travelers planning to fly from Brussels Airport over the next few days should check their journey and parking arrangements before leaving home.
The airport recommends booking parking in advance to improve the chances of securing a space. Passengers should also check the latest traffic information and follow airport signs when approaching the terminal.
With heavy passenger numbers and limited parking availability, arriving early and considering public transportation may help travelers avoid unnecessary stress before their flights.
