Mega Mobile in Belgium: Is It Worth Switching?

Mega, the Belgian energy supplier, has entered the mobile phone market with low-cost subscriptions that use Orange’s mobile network. Its plans start at just 8 euros per month, while customers who combine eligible Mega energy and mobile services can receive an additional discount.

But does a low price automatically make Mega the best mobile provider in Belgium? We compare its latest plans with established competitors, explain the potential drawbacks, and look at what customers should check before switching.

What Is Mega Mobile?

Mega is known in Belgium as a supplier of electricity and natural gas. It has expanded into telecommunications with Mega Mobile, offering mobile subscriptions at competitive prices.

The company uses the Orange mobile network rather than operating a separate nationwide mobile network of its own. Mega advertises 5G access, with speeds of up to 400 Mbps under its current offer.

Using Orange’s network gives Mega access to existing mobile infrastructure. However, the actual experience can still depend on coverage, network conditions, the subscription’s terms and the device being used.

Mega is therefore a new option for consumers, but it is not a completely new mobile network in Belgium.

Mega Mobile Prices in 2026

Mega currently advertises four main mobile plans. The prices below reflect the offers displayed on its official website when checked on October 16, 2026. Promotional prices and terms can change.

  •  Mega Mobile 5 GB: 8 euros per month.
  •  Mega Mobile 30 GB: 10 euros per month for the first six months, then 12 euros per month.
  •  Mega Mobile 75 GB: 14 euros per month for the first six months, then 17 euros per month.
  • Mega Mobile 120 GB: 18 euros per month for the first six months, then 22 euros per month.

The plans are advertised with unlimited calls and text messages, along with 5G access. Customers should check the full subscription conditions, including roaming allowances, out-of-bundle charges and any optional services, before signing up.

How Does Mega’s Energy Discount Work?

One of Mega’s main selling points is the discount available to customers who combine mobile and energy services.

According to Mega’s current terms, eligible customers with a Mega electricity contract can receive a discount of 3 euros per month for each qualifying mobile subscription, up to five subscriptions. That means the maximum advertised mobile discount can reach 15 euros per month across five eligible SIM cards.

There are conditions. The discount depends on maintaining the qualifying electricity and mobile services, and it should not be assumed to apply automatically to every customer or every energy contract.

This matters because the cheapest advertised price is not necessarily the price every customer will pay. Before switching, compare the total cost of electricity and mobile services, rather than looking at the phone subscription alone.

If Mega’s electricity offer is more expensive than a competitor’s, any mobile discount could be offset by higher energy costs. Consumers should compare both contracts separately before deciding.

Is Mega Cheaper Than Proximus, Orange and Other Providers?

Mega’s prices are competitive, particularly for customers who need a large amount of mobile data without paying premium-provider prices. However, the best deal depends on how much data you use and whether you qualify for a discount.

Proximus, for example, advertises its Mobile Essential plan with 5 GB, 150 minutes of calls and unlimited SMS for 14.99 euros per month during a 12-month promotion, rising to 16.99 euros afterward. Mega’s 5 GB plan costs 8 euros per month and advertises unlimited calls and SMS.

That makes Mega look attractive on price, although customers should compare the full terms and the network performance they receive in their own area.

For people who use much more data, the Belgian Institute for Postal Services and Telecommunications (BIPT) published a national mobile-price comparison for the second quarter of 2026. In its 100 GB user profile, Mega’s 120 GB plan was listed at 22 euros per month. The comparison also listed Orange’s 140 GB plan at 29 euros and Proximus’s 140 GB plan at 29.99 euros.

These figures are a useful independent benchmark, but they represent a snapshot from May 4, 2026. Promotions and tariffs can change, so consumers should check the latest offers before choosing a provider.

Why Is Mega Entering the Mobile Market?

Combining energy and telecommunications is a way for Mega to expand its business and encourage customers to use several services from the same company.

For consumers, a single provider for multiple services may be convenient. Discounts can also make the combined offer appealing, particularly for households with several mobile subscriptions.

However, convenience should not be confused with guaranteed savings. Customers still need to check the price of each service, the conditions attached to discounts and what happens if they later want to switch providers.

Mega’s entry may also add competitive pressure to Belgium’s mobile market. Still, it is too early to conclude that its arrival will force every major operator to cut prices. Providers respond to competition in different ways, and their decisions depend on costs, customer demand and their wider business strategies.

What Are the Possible Disadvantages of Mega Mobile?

Price is important, but it is not the only factor to consider when choosing a mobile provider.

1. Customer service

Before switching, check how customers can contact Mega, when support is available and how technical or billing problems are handled. A low monthly fee may be less attractive if resolving a problem proves difficult.

Claims about the size of Mega’s customer-service team or its service quality should be supported by reliable, current evidence. Without that evidence, it would be unfair to conclude that the company necessarily provides worse support than established operators.

2. Promotional prices

Two of Mega’s larger plans have introductory prices that rise after six months. The 30 GB plan increases from 10 to 12 euros per month, while the 75 GB plan rises from 14 to 17 euros. The 120 GB plan increases from 18 to 22 euros.

These changes are stated in the current offer, so they are not evidence of an unexpected price increase. Customers should simply calculate the cost after the promotion ends, rather than choosing a plan based only on its starting price.

3. Network performance

Mega uses Orange’s network, but that does not guarantee identical results for every customer in every location. Check Orange’s coverage in the places where you regularly use your phone, including at home, at work and during your commute.

4. Conditions for the energy discount

The combination discount is linked to qualifying Mega services. If you cancel your electricity contract or change your arrangements, you may no longer qualify for the reduced mobile bill.

Anyone considering moving both energy and mobile services should compare the total annual cost, including fixed charges, energy rates and any temporary promotions.

Is Mega Mobile Available Everywhere in Belgium?

Consumers should also check whether they can sign up in their region. Mega’s website states that its offers in Brussels are available only to professional customers or through group purchases. This is an important limitation for private consumers living in the Brussels-Capital Region.

Check the provider’s current eligibility rules before making plans to switch.

Should You Choose Mega Mobile?

Mega Mobile is worth considering if you want a low-cost subscription, need a moderate or large amount of data, and have good Orange-network coverage where you live and work.

Its 5 GB plan is particularly inexpensive at 8 euros per month. The larger plans may also offer good value, although their prices rise after the first six months.

However, Mega is not automatically the best choice for everyone. Some customers may prefer another provider because of coverage in their area, customer support, roaming conditions or a better overall deal when several services are combined.

The smartest approach is to compare the full monthly cost, check the price after any promotion ends, and review the contract conditions before switching. If you are also considering changing your energy supplier, compare the electricity contract independently instead of assuming that a combined discount guarantees savings.

Belgium’s mobile market now has another price-focused competitor. Whether Mega is the right choice depends on your usage, your location and the terms you can actually obtain.
