Explosion Blows Front Door Off Home in Lokeren

An explosion damaged a home in Lokeren overnight, blowing the property’s front door off its hinges. No one was injured.

The explosion happened on Koning Boudewijnlaan, where police and firefighters responded to the scene.

Authorities also called in Belgium’s military bomb disposal unit, DOVO, to make sure the area was safe.

Cause of Explosion Still Unknown

Investigators have not yet determined what caused the explosion or what type of explosive may have been used.

Hanne Olivier, a spokesperson for the East Flanders public prosecutor’s office, said investigators currently have limited information about the incident.

The investigation will begin once DOVO confirms that the location is safe. A forensic laboratory will then examine the scene and try to determine exactly what happened.

Authorities are also investigating whether the explosion was deliberate and what may have motivated it.

The prosecutor’s office has not released further details about a possible motive at this stage.
