Woman Found Dead on Oostduinkerke Beach Identified

The body of a woman found washed up on a beach in Oostduinkerke has been identified as an older woman who had been missing for some time, Belgian authorities said.
Two walkers discovered the woman’s body on the beach Thursday morning. Police in the Westkust area and the maritime police immediately launched an investigation, but the woman’s identity was not initially known.
Later in the afternoon, the Missing Persons Unit and an identification team joined the investigation. Based on information gathered during the inquiry, the woman was identified as being over 60 years old.
The woman had suffered injuries to her face, but investigators quickly determined that the injuries occurred while she was at sea.
The public prosecutor’s office said the investigation has now been completed and found no evidence of foul play or involvement by a third party.
