Algerian Missing Man Found Under Home Terrace in Belgium After Eight Years

The remains of an Algerian man who disappeared in Visé, near Liège, eight years ago have been found under the terrace of his former home in Belgium.

Farid Bouzid disappeared in 2018. He lived in Hoog-Cheratte with his four-year-old son and his Belgian wife, Éloïse.

His family reported him missing to police at the time. One possible explanation was that Farid had decided to leave Belgium and travel to Algeria to reconnect with his Algerian roots.

Because Farid was an adult and could legally leave on his own, police and prosecutors did not issue a public search notice. Weeks turned into months, and eventually years, without any news about him.

Cold Case Investigation Brings New Breakthrough

The case was eventually reopened by the Cold Case team of the Federal Judicial Police in Liège.

On July 3, investigators carried out excavations at the property in Visé, where Farid’s son and his mother still lived.

Under a concrete slab behind the house, investigators found human remains. The slab was reportedly part of the foundation of the terrace.

The house in Cheratte and suspect Éloïse.

Forensic tests later confirmed that the remains belonged to Farid Bouzid. His remains have since been handed over to his family.

Belgian Wife Arrested After Discovery

After the discovery, Farid’s Belgian wife was questioned and arrested. According to investigators, she admitted that she had killed her husband.

However, she reportedly denies that the killing was planned in advance.

The exact circumstances of Farid’s death remain unclear. Investigators found that concrete work had been carried out at the home around the time he disappeared. This eventually led them to investigate the area beneath the terrace.

The woman is currently being held in custody. A court in Liège has confirmed her detention.

Her lawyer, Yves Wynants, said there is still a great deal of investigative work to be done and declined to comment further on the case.

Family Finally Gets Answers

The discovery was a major shock for Farid’s family, but it also finally gave them answers about what happened to him.

His lawyers, Johan Ancia and Maxime Dulieu, said the family was deeply shocked but also relieved to finally know what happened to their son and brother.

Farid’s remains had apparently been hidden on the property for eight years, while his Belgian wife and their child continued living there.

The investigation is still ongoing. Authorities are now working to establish exactly how Farid died and what role his wife played in his death.
