Ukrainian Soldier Dies During Treatment in Belgium

For the first time, a Ukrainian soldier being treated in Belgium has died while receiving medical care for serious burn injuries.

The soldier, named Roman, was a Ukrainian drone pilot who was brought to Belgium for specialized treatment after suffering burns.

Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken announced his death on social media. He said doctors had tried to save the soldier but were unable to do so.

“We could save them dozens of times, but not this time,” Francken wrote.

Roman’s body has since been returned to Ukraine.

Belgium Treats Wounded Ukrainian Soldiers

Since the start of the war in Ukraine, Belgium has provided medical care to Ukrainian soldiers and civilians who cannot receive the treatment they need in their own country.

Belgium has also treated wounded people who require specialized medical care, including treatment for serious burns.

According to the Belgian Defense Ministry, Roman is the first known Ukrainian soldier to die while receiving this type of medical treatment in Belgium.

His death marks a tragic moment in Belgium’s efforts to provide medical care to wounded Ukrainians brought to the country for specialized treatment.
