Belgian Man Loses Nearly 20,000 Euro in Phishing Scam

A 37-year-old Belgian man from Wanzele became the victim of a phishing scam and lost nearly 20,000 euro after trying to reserve a lounge set online.

Wouter only paid 10 euro to make the reservation. But shortly afterward, he discovered that almost 20,000 euro had disappeared from his account.

The money was taken in just 18 minutes.

The incident is another example of how phishing scams can quickly turn a seemingly harmless online transaction into a major financial loss.

Wouter believed he was simply paying a small amount to reserve the lounge set. Instead, he ended up losing a substantial amount of money after becoming the target of fraudsters.

The case highlights the growing danger of phishing, in which criminals use fake messages, websites or payment requests to trick people into handing over sensitive information or giving them access to their money.

For Wouter, what started with a 10-euro payment ended with a loss of nearly 20,000 euro.

“In just 18 minutes, the money was gone,” he said.
